Teaching after-school yoga classes are hard, amirite? Kiddos are often tired, rangy, and emotionally overloaded after dealing with school work & human dynamics all day.
It’s common to walk into an after-school class where the kiddos need to move A LOT before we can do more yoga-ish activities.
Here’s a super simple movement game for kids in honour of Valentine’s Day.
One side of the room has a sign that says Love It! The other side of the room has a sign that says Leave It!
Teacher calls out items.* Kids run to LOVE IT or they run to LEAVE IT.**
Some items are thought-provoking- one child last week said, “Compost!” and I said, well, it’s sometimes stinky but it’s good for the earth so….LOVE IT!
Also, it’s also a safe way to acknowledge and de-stigmatize diversity. “Huh, it’s interesting how some people love chocolate but not everyone!” (i.e. So we’re different. No big deal!)
However and Whomever you Love: A Very Happy Valentine’s Day to You.
Love,
The Yoga Buggy
