Heavy Lizard

The other day I was poking around Odin Books and discovered these weighted animals.  I pictured the occasional station that I set up for my yoga students who need extra support, or peace and quiet, or tactile time.  I could picture the weighted animal in that space, sitting on a child’s lap, or shoulders, or tummy. I chose a silver lizard, pulled out my beautiful company bank card,  and brought it home.

Upon arriving home from school Z. (age 7) spotted the new lizard in .26 seconds.   I told him that it was for work. He nonetheless claimed it as his own immediately.   I agreed that my students could share it with him. He agreed that he was willing to share it with my students.

Z.  wanted to let you know about an experience that he had with the silver lizard on the second day it was in our house.   He was nervous to share his review + pro tips (I told him it would be published) so a special thank you to Z. for being brave!

Pro tip:

“You have to do it right like I did it right:  you shouldn’t squish [the lizard]. You should just have it on top of you.  My mom says that you should be kind of gentle with it. Well, you can squish it a teeny bit.  You can lift him up and see where the sand goes, and tons more.”

Review:

“The lizard really works.  When I was mad this morning about the UNO game, I stormed to my room and lay the lizard on me.  In ten seconds flat I calmed down.”

That’s a pretty good endorsement right?  I think it will be a hit in the quiet corner at yoga on Monday.

What do you use to help your kids or students calm down?  We’d love to hear from you!
